Printworks x The New Yorker
Created for The New Yorker's hundredth anniversary, this chess set reimagines every piece as a New York City icon — the Statue of Liberty stands in as Queen, pigeons take the Knight positions, and yellow cabs become Pawns. Illustrator Christoph Niemann, a longtime New Yorker contributor, designed each piece as a small sculptural object rather than a standard chess figure.
Built entirely from wood in a black-and-white palette, the set is equally at home mid-game or left out as a display piece, arriving in packaging designed for gifting.
